Hey guys!
Daytona is finally here, and it feels pretty good. We don’t have much of an off season, but that’s OK for most of us, because racing is what we love to do. It’s our chosen profession and personally, I can’t wait to get strapped in Saturday night for the Bud Shootout.
This will be my second Shootout. My first was three years ago and we ended up finishing third. It’s a cool way to kick off the season and an excellent opportunity to prepare for next week which will be full of racing at Daytona. A lot, if not all, of what we learn in the Shootout will carry over to the Gatorade Duel and the 500.
But, we really won’t be thinking much about that when the race starts Saturday night. All we’re thinking about is trying to be out front on the final lap, and this team has the capability to do that. In restrictor plate racing, there’s only so much you can do. I believe we’ve got a good handling racecar which will help us tremendously on Saturday, but like everyone else, we’re going to need some help in order to get out front and lead.
Luckily, I have three other teammates out there which may or may not be a great help on Saturday. If we have the opportunity, we’ll hook up and try to go. But, it’s hard to plan for that. You can only race with whoever is around you at the time. Some guys work better with others, whether it’s teammates, Fords, Chevys, Dodges, or whatever. We’re going to go with whoever we believe can help us to the front. Ideally, that would be the three other Roush teams, and we could finish one through four. That’d be pretty cool.
I’ll be on the track a good bit over the next two weeks. We race the Shootout on Saturday night, Daytona 500 qualifying on Sunday, then next week, we’ll race the Gatorade Duel on Thursday, IROC on Friday, then the big one next Sunday. It’s going to be an interesting 10 days or so and hopefully we can start on a good note Saturday night.
