He’s got a reputation as a mean and nasty closer, driven to win at all costs. And he’ll be coming out of the Diamondbacks’ bullpen to pitch tonight — sort of.
Kurt Busch, NASCAR’s 2004 Nextel Cup champion who ran afoul of Maricopa County sheriff’s deputies last November during a traffic stop, returns to the Valley to toss out the ceremonial first pitch before tonight’s Diamondbacks-Giants game at Chase Field.
Busch’s appearance is part of Arizona’s Sprint NASCAR Nextel Cup night at the ballpark, the second of three nights of promotions leading up to this weekend’s NASCAR races at Phoenix International Raceway.
Busch will drive his No. 2 Miller Lite Dodge from the bullpen and onto the warning track before taking the field.
After the game, his car will be on display in the Chase plaza, and Busch’s Busch Series car, the No. 39 Penske Truck Rental Dodge, will be on the Chase rotunda when gates open at 4:30 p.m.
